What ethnicity actually does
Ethnicity in Gakuran is a character-generation stat. You do not pick it freely during normal setup. The important part is not the label by itself; it is the height range that label tends to roll around. Height then affects HP, damage, hitbox, reach, swing feel, and recovery pace.
That means a rare ethnicity can still produce a body you dislike, and a common Japanese roll can still be completely playable. Think of ethnicity as the path into a height profile, not as a direct damage buff.

Reported height averages
These averages are useful as direction, not as a guarantee. Your actual height can still roll above or below the average for your character.

Reroll logic for ethnicity
Keep a common label if the body works
Japanese is common, but common does not mean weak. If your height and style feel good, you already have a usable build.
Do not chase rarity alone
The non-Japanese pool is rare, but rarity does not guarantee the exact height, style, or matchup feel you want.
Reroll for a plan
Reroll when you are chasing a clear body role: tall bruiser, balanced all-rounder, or short evasive build.
FAQ
Can you choose ethnicity directly?
Current player guides describe it as an automatic character roll, not a normal pick-from-list option.
Does ethnicity directly buff damage?
No reliable current reference treats the ethnicity label as a direct damage button. The practical effect is through height tendency.
Is a rare ethnicity always worth keeping?
Keep it long enough to test. If the height fights against your playstyle, the rare label may not be worth building around.
